I do wish the ergonomics was a little better, customisation options for buttons/dials weren't so weirdly limited and that I had the option to turn off the back display via the INFO button when not in use. I don't do a lot of video work so I'm not phased by that either. Any lenses I have that need it already come with decent IS. The two are identical, except that the effect of the optical low-pass filter is ‘cancelled’ on the 5DS R, which adds a £200 premium to its body-only price (£3,200 vs £3,000). Those are strong video specs for the class.
CANON EOS R REVIEW PLUS
It gets criticism over it's video support and lack of IBIS, but honestly they're not deal breakers. Canon announced two models simultaneously with its 50.6MP full-frame sensor the EOS 5DS and the EOS 5DS R. Despite using an older sensor, the EOS R10 manages full-width 4K24 and 4K30 recording, plus supports 4K60 capture with a cropped-in (1.56x) view. Noise wise, it's the same as my older 6D (which itself is already fantastic), but dynamic range is better. This is the first time coming to a mirrorless camera, so features like focus peaking etc. Outstanding battery life, fantastic AF, nice features like moving the focusing point via the touchpad and it being compatible with all of my EF lenses is just the icing on the cake. I bought this knowing that it's not technically the best FF mirrorless out there, and while it has its faults, honestly it really is a really good camera. Between the two tests, we can see how tolerant the camera's files are to having addition tonal information pulled up from the shadows into the visible parts of the image. This means that any difference in noise must come from the camera. If we weren't bound by a system, however.
CANON EOS R REVIEW ISO
Here we shoot different ISO settings using the same exposure values. TechRadar Verdict The Canon EOS R is a very capable camera, and should satisfy many EOS DSLR owners looking for a solid mirrorless alternative.

This is where our 'ISO Invariance' test comes in. However, reducing the exposure increases the noise level, which makes it difficult to tell what's happening at the sensor level. We do this in two ways: first, our Exposure Latitude test shows the effect of lifting the shadows of images shot with increasingly low exposure (as you would if you were trying to capture/retain more highlight information). Rather than just quoting numbers, we try to show the photographic impact. There is, of course, an element of personal taste to this. Overall, dynamic range is good, but trails most current full-frame cameras on the market.ĭynamic range is the range of tonal values that a camera can represent, from the brightest recorded tone to the darkest usable value. While there's little to no striping or banding visible, the EOS R's files are slightly noisier than its DSLR cousin.Dynamic range is, for most purposes, broadly similar to the EOS 5D Mark IV.
